The population of students in the Asheville City Schools system is approximately 60% white to 40% minority, and there is a gap in achievement, the minority students affected negatively more than the majority. The minority teacher population is very low. Could the absence of minority teachers be one of the causes of the learning gap in the Asheville City Schools system as well as across the country?
