The population of students in the Asheville City Schools system is approximately 60% white to 40% minority, and there is a gap in achievement, the minority students affected negatively more than the majority. The minority teacher population is very low. Could the absence of minority teachers be one of the causes of the learning gap in the Asheville City Schools system as well as across the country? Why do you feel as you do?

I think education matters, but clearly the value of a classical education isn't what it used to be. And "who you know" lets a lot of people (think the current president) get a degree without earning it, and without ever getting a real education.

I don't think the class of majority and minority still maters to this day. It may be in the place you are talking and is some really urban places, and I have also seen these kinds of things in some of the countries of Asia like India, Nepal and some others, but these days it's not a big deal.
I think education and also the seriousness, capability and the environment of the students and the teacher matters.
