staff reports

The Asheville Chapter of The Links recently awarded academic college scholarships to five area youth at a dinner given in their honor. Member of the Asheville-Links Scholarship Committee are: Diane Mance, President of Asheville-Links Inc., Dr. Janet Bowman, Carol Goins, Esq., Denise Miller, Gloria Gilliam, and Willie Vincent.

“We are very proud of these students,” said Mrs. Mance in awarding the scholarships, and noting that the Asheville Links are eager to help develop future leaders by helping them lay the foundation for success. “We have followed and mentored these students, and notice how they have excelled academically in school. We want them to be equally successful throughout their college years and their chosen careers.”

Since its founding in 1946, The Links, Incorporated has lived by the motto “World Class Leadership, Friendship, and Service.” Its members are influential decision-makers and opinion leaders, women of distinction for their individual achievements and for the difference they make in their communities. They are business and civic leaders, role models, mentors, activists and volunteers who work towards a common vision by engaging like-minded organizations and individuals for partnership.

Links members contribute more than 500,000 documented hours of community service annually, strengthening their communities and enhancing the nation. The organization is the recipient of awards from the UN Association of New York and the Leon H. Sullivan Foundation for its premier programs.
