Southern Silk is a husband-and-wife duo whose interpretive jazz and contemporary pop music offers a memorable musical journey through the smooth sounds of favorite songs and performers. Tony Kemp likes to cover such balladeers as Nat King Cole, James Taylor, George Benson, Stevie Wonder, and Elvis Presley while Joanne’s voice can recall the silky, sultry voices of Diana Washington, Billie Holiday, Dionne Warwick, Roberta Flack, and Gladys Knight.

Through live performances and recordings, they reach a broad fan base with audiences ranging over every ethnic and racial background. “Baby boomers fifty to seventy-five years old are the core of our audience,” says Joann, “but younger people still get happy and dance!” The pair have proved through years of performing that “music should make you feel good, want to dance, want to love, want to relax, and enjoy some awesome entertainment,” she says.
