It seems as if some folks just know how to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory.

Fresh from promoting his box-office smash, Takers, and his new music, Grammy-winning rap superstar T.I. was arrested along with his wife, Tameka “Tiny” Cottle on drug charges Sept. 1 in West Hollywood.

Police stopped the couple for making an illegal U-Turn and smelled marijuana smoke from their Maybach. Unfortunately for Mr. and Mrs. Harris, when there’s smoke, there’s pills.  Police also found methamphetamines in their vehicle. The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s department charged the couple with possession of a controlled substance; they were released the following morning after posting bail of $10,000 each.

The arrest could hold serious and severe legal consequences for T.I. The native Atlantan is currently on probation for weapons charges, for which he did prison time a year ago. If convicted, T.I. could return to prison. Following the arrest, Tiny vehemently denied possessing the meth tablets via a Tweet claiming she doesn’t know what the drug looks like. As for T.I., hours after posting bail he was ordered to return to Atlanta to face his probation officers.

Controversial artists

Moving from one controversial artist to two more, Chris Brown and Kanye West are in the news once again, but this time it is for their travels on the highway to redemption. Brown is well on his way to redeeming himself after the Rihanna incident. His current single, “Deuces,” sits atop of the R&B/Hip Hop charts. Brown’s number-one hit is a personal milestone because it marks the first time in a year that the singer gained recognition for his music.

With a new album and a MTV Video Music Award performance on the horizon, Kanye West took to his Twitter page to apologize to country star Taylor Swift for interrupting her acceptance speech at last year’s VMAs and even offered her a song as a token of his remorse.

“I take the responsibility for my actions,” West wrote. “I wrote a song for Taylor Swift that’s so beautiful and I want her to have it. If she won’t take it, then I’ll perform it for her.”

Surprise call

Former soap star-turned-author Victoria Rowell made some noise in her own right when she called

into Jamie Foxx’s Sirus radio show, The Foxhole, during an appearance by Rowell’s former The Young and The Restless co-star Kristoff St. John and newest cast member Darius McCrary. During the surprise call, Rowell confronted St. John and made him confirm to the listeners that he was punished for speaking against Y&R’s alleged racial bias and backstage drama and politics, and being underpaid. Rowell’s mission did not end at the Foxhole because the soap opera diva is promoting a petition to return to the show and using her Twitter page as a platform to speak out against the bias in daytime television.

Emmys blasted

Moving from daytime TV to primetime, Regina King wrote a column in the Huffington Post blasting the Emmys for their lack of diversity in their nominees. According to the article, only 53 non-white actors have been up for Emmy nominations out of nearly 1,000 possible nominations in the top four acting categories for drama and comedy. In the article, King expressed her displeasure with those numbers.

“I’ve worked in television nearly all of my professional life and that statistic is quite sobering to me.”

King’s also gave a jarring personal antidote to this year’s Emmys.

“And to add injury to my already sensitive nerve endings a picture of Rutina Wesley from True Blood, who attended this year’s Emmys, had a caption that read: “Regina King enters 62nd Emmys.” No I wasn’t there. Mistakes happen, right? Well, after a few “mistakes” of how people of color are portrayed in the Hollywood media, I decided it was important to say something about how things go down in Hollywood."
