Permission to Go Within: Poetry on a Deeper Level  – A Poetry Workshop

Need to feel empowered to write and speak poetry? This class is for you, an intensive yet, gentle workshop offering a door to a deeper and more meaningful relationship with poetry.

Glenis Redmond

It will utilize empowering tools of exploration and celebration of the non-linear and the emotional aspects of verse. Many tried and true writing exercises will be demonstrated and modeled to foster the creative process. Come experience writing and performance techniques that will take your work to another level.

Glenis Redmond is a 2005-2006 NC Literary Award recipient and a Denny C. Plattner Award winner for Outstanding Poetry. She has been inducted in the Hall of Fame for Best Poet in Western North Carolina. She is a Kennedy Center Workshop Leader and her work has aired periodically on National Public Radio. Glenis was a South Eastern Regional Slam Champion and a National Slam Finalist. She has been published in Meridians, African Voices, EMRYS, Asheville Poetry Review, 2006 Kakalak: A Journal of Carolina Poets, Appalachian Heritage and the Appalachian Journal. Her manuscript Under The Sun was shortlisted by Autumn House Press. She is the Poet Laureate of the Van Wezel Performing Arts Hall in Sarasota, Florida. Glenis logs over 35,000 miles and over 200 shows and workshops each year taking poetry to the people!

10-week class – Class dates are September 4, 11, 18, 25; October 16; November 6, 13, 20;
December 4 and 11. Classes meet Tuesday evenings, 6-8:30 pm at the YMI Cultural Center, 39 S. Market Street.
