City Presents Parks, Recreation, Cultural Arts, and Greenways Master Plan Findings & Recommendation |

The City of Asheville will host a public meeting to present the preliminary findings and recommendations of the Parks, Recreation, Cultural Arts and Greenways Master Plan on July 17, 6-8 p.m. at the Public Works Building, 161 S. Charlotte St. The master plan process began in January of this year to look at the existing recreation facilities and programs, open space, greenways and cultural art services provided by the City. The plan is designed to prioritize the recreational needs for new facilities, amenities and services, and it will help to determine the phasing, timing, and funding for projects and services for the next several years.
Following the July 17 public meeting, the public may
view the findings and preliminary recommendations and make comment July
19-27 at www.ashevillenc.gov (look under Projects & Initiatives for
the link to the master plan). The public comment period will end after
that date so all comments can be integrated into the master plan in
preparation for Asheville City Council review in September 2008.
The master plan is being led by a nationally-known parks and recreation
management consulting firm, GreenPlay, LLC, to oversee the process that
includes comprehensive community input, and to determine the current
and future level of recreational service for the community. Close to
1,000 people in Asheville have participated to date in the public input
via public meetings and a survey.
