Staff reports

In difficult economic times it can be hard to find any job, much less a well-paid career that allows you to come home from work each day knowing that you made someone’s life better. Learning the skills to become a Certified Nurses Aide can be a good way to reach that goal.

CNA training is required for all nursing careers in North Carolina. Colleges, both private and public, offer CNA training, but during the current recession, when millions of people are out of work and eager to learn new skills, many of the three-month programs at technical colleges face long waiting lists.

Fortunately, training is also available from private businesses, such as Angel Care Health and Education, which offers classes to meet CNA review/challenge requirements as well as caregiving.

The founders of Angel Care, Charles and Wendy Goodwin, formerly owned Mobile Diagnostics, a business providing diagnostic x-ray, EKG, and other services to nursing homes, private residences, and jails in North Carolina and upstate South Carolina.

Angel Care conducts classes in its own fully equipped medical training center, with small classes to ensure that each student receives ample hands-on experience. The company claims a 99% pass rate, and offers additional help for students who do not pass the state certification on the first attempt. Classes it offers are:
•    Two-Day Fast Track CNA review/Challenge Course
•    Patient Care Assistant 25-hour course, NC state approved
•    Family & Friend Medical Care Giver – 12-hour, two-day course (includes a free American Heart Association CPR class)
•    American Heart Association CPR for Adult/Child/Infant
