Staff Reports

March 13-18 at the Fine Arts Theatre

The Asheville Jewish Film Festival promotes the diversity of Jewish identity through film. Festival activities are meant to create a space for dialogue about what it means to be Jewish, creating awareness and pride in various and differing aspects. The festival strives to bring attention to a constantly evolving and vibrant Jewish culture.

This year, the Asheville Art Museum’s film choice is In a Dream directed by Jeremiah Zagar, and winner of the Audience Award for Best Feature at the San Francisco Documentary Film Festival.

For more than 40 years Isaiah Zagar has created over 100 concentrated mosaics, many in his South Philadelphia neighborhood. In a Dream was directed by his son Jeremiah and explores the artist’s inner demons as well as his prolific output. A question-and-answer session with mosaic artist Jessica Levine, who worked with Zagar for many years, will be held after each screening. Two screenings will be held at the Fine Arts Theatre, Monday, March 15 at 1:00 p.m., and Wednesday, March 17 at 7:00 p.m.
